Bowles, Jets not happy with Geno Smith tossing footballs at home
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Todd Bowles and the New York Jets would prefer Geno Smith wait until the doctors tell him he can throw footballs again.
Smith was photographed by the New York Post playing catch with a friend outside his New Jersey apartment Saturday, two days after the quarterback had jaw surgery. Smith had plates and screws inserted into the jaw, which was broken by a punch from then-teammate Ikemefuna Enemkpali on Tuesday.
The newspaper published a front-page image of Smith, his face swollen with black bandages on each cheek.
Bowles says Sunday that Smith "shouldn't be doing it right now" and that the team discussed that with the quarterback. The coach adds that doctors have said Smith shouldn't be participating in physical activities.
