Brandon Brooks missing games with anxiety condition
Brandon Brooks’ anxiety issues are keeping him from playing games.
First-year Philadelphia Eagles guard Brandon Brooks has been inactive over the last several weeks due to illnesses.
But it turns out there is a lot more to those illnesses than initially expected.
Brooks revealed Wednesday that he is currently dealing with an anxiety condition, causing him to feel physically ill prior to football games. He says it’s his obsession with the game that is causing the anxiety.
He went into greater detail on his condition on 94WIP Wednesday.
“I’m a perfectionist and anytime that I’m not perfect, in my head it’s not good enough. And it kind of just wears on me from there. But for me, going forward getting help that I need, I’ll be alright, I’ll make it through. And really, I’ll have to turn that volume down. Otherwise it’s been how it’s been, where I’ve gotten physically ill and have gotten sent to the hospital.”
Mental illness is a subject in which many can relate. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, 40 million adults in the United States (approximately 18 percent of the American population) are affected by anxiety to some degree. Brooks happens to fall in the 18 percent.
Brooks says his teammates have rallied around him since admitting his condition and hopes to play against the Baltimore Ravens Sunday.
