Brandon Spikes released by Patriots
By Steve DelVecchio
The New England Patriots have released linebacker Brandon Spikes in the wake of the ongoing hit-and-run investigation involving a car that is registered in his name.
The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Spikes’ car was found abandoned on a highway in Foxboro early Sunday morning around the same time an alleged hit-and-run accident was reported in the same area. An OnStar navigation operator notified police that the driver of the vehicle reported that he had hit a deer. Police found damage to the front end of the 2011 Mercedes Maybach but no sign that a deer was hit.
Around the same time OnStar received a call, a family reported being rear-ended by an unidentified vehicle. Investigators are working to determine if the two incidents are related.
Obviously, the Patriots have no interest in waiting to see the results of that investigation. They re-signed Spikes just three weeks ago after he spent a season with the Buffalo Bills. After leaving New England the first time, Spikes referred to himself as a “slave” in a series of tweets and went off on Patriots fans.
