Brian Dawkins snubbed from Pro Football Hall of Fame for kicker

Apparently a kicker is more deserving of the Hall of Fame than Brian Dawkins.

One of the greatest Philadelphia Eagles players of all time, Brian Dawkins was considered a shoe-in to be a member of this year’s Hall of Fame class. Or so we thought.

As it turns out, Dawkins will have to wait another year to be inducted into the Hall.

The players inducted into the Hall of Fame at Saturday night’s NFL Honors are LaDainian Tomlinson, Kurt Warner, Terrell Davis, Kenny Easley, Jason Taylor, and Morten Andersen, a kicker.

Yes, a kicker was chosen to go to the Hall of Fame over Dawkins.

During his 16-year career, Dawkins played in 224 games, recording 895 tackles, 26 sacks, 36 forced fumbles, 120 passes defensed and 37 interceptions, according to Pro Football Reference. Dawkins also became the first player in NFL history to record at least 30 interceptions and 30 forced fumbles during his career.

Make no mistake, Andersen was an incredible kicker. He spent a whopping 25 years in the NFL and finished with a 79.7 field goal percentage. He also holds the record for field goals and games played.

But should a kicker really be voted into the Hall of Fame before a player like Dawkins? That’s a bit of a head-scratcher.
