Brian Westbrook on Eagles: Talent doesn't always translate to wins

Chip Kelly has overhauled the Philadelphia Eagles' roster since coming aboard in 2013, and his 2015 roster is exceptionally talented. In the process, he has gotten rid of franchise faces and quarterback Nick Foles, who many believed would emerge as the franchise quarterback after the 2013 season.

According to former Eagles running back and current NFL analyst Brian Westbrook, the Eagles' assembly of talent might take longer to mesh together than people expect. When you bring in a group of players who haven't spent much time playing together, there are a lot of unknowns.

“The talent is there, and in the NFL, you can have an awful lot of talent and it doesn’t necessarily translate to wins,” Westbrook said, per the Philadelphia Daily Inquirer. “It’s a lot easier when you had a team like we had back in the day, where you knew Donovan (McNabb at quarterback) was going to be there, you knew (safety Brian Dawkins) was going to be there, you knew I was going to be there, and (offensive linemen) Tra Thomas and (Jon) Runyan, and you understood what this team was going to be all about. This year, you don’t know quite yet.

“It’s a big question mark, but if you talk about talent, this is one of the most talented teams in the league,” Westbrook said. “But if you talk about talent and potential, sometimes it goes the other way.”

The Eagles' roster has been upgraded in the secondary, at inside linebacker and arguably at running back during this offseason. However, there are question marks along the interior offensive line that weren't there in 2014 when the Eagles had Evan Mathis and Todd Herremans on the roster. It will be interesting to see how fast this new group of teammates can build the continuity necessary to win football games.
