Broncos coach Gary Kubiak: Don't 'sleep on' Trevor Siemian to win QB job

Published May. 31, 2016 9:45 a.m. ET

The reigning Super Bowl champions enter the 2016 season with a huge question mark at quarterback. After having both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler in the fold a year ago, the Denver Broncos have two new names vying for the starting job: Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch.

Both Sanchez and Lynch boast very different resumes -- one's highly experienced and the other was viewed as far from NFL-ready out of the draft -- with neither being a great option to lead Denver to another Super Bowl appearance. Head coach Gary Kubiak doesn't sound worried in the least, and thinks there could be a third name in the ring as a potential starter. His name is Trevor Siemian.

Siemian is the only returning quarterback from last year's championship team. And because of that, he has more experience in the Broncos' offense than any quarterback on the roster despite being a seventh-round pick in 2015.

Of course, Kubiak's comment on Siemian is far from an endorsement for the starting job, he's just indicating that it's a wide-open competition. And as for Siemian's take? He's just happy to be in the fold.

At this point, Sanchez will most likely win the job to start the season. He has the most experience and gives the Broncos the best chance to win. Lynch and Siemian are still extremely inexperienced and can't be trusted to avoid mistakes and make clutch throws in close games.
