Brother of Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy dies
Joe McCarthy, the younger brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, died Wednesday, the team confirmed in a statement. He was 47.
Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA-TV reported earlier Wednesday that Joe McCarthy died after collapsing at a Pittsburgh-area gym.
He was reportedly taken to UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless, where he was pronounced dead in the morning. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
Joe McCarthy was an attorney, at one time serving as Pennsylvania State Deputy Attorney General. Mike McCarthy canceled his postseason press conference due to personal matters.

“The Packers family was very saddened today to learn of the passing of Joseph McCarthy III, the younger brother of Mike McCarthy. Our sincere condolences are with Joe and Ellen, Mike and Jessica, and the entire McCarthy family.
“The McCarthy family appreciates the overwhelming support they have received, as well as the respect for their privacy, during this difficult time.”
Mike McCarthy, a native of Greenfield, Pa., coached the Packers on Sunday in their 28-22 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC championship game.
