The Cleveland Browns do not seem to be very high on Carson Wentz, saying the Philadelphia Eagles starter won’t be a top-20 NFL QB.
Before the 2016 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns traded way the No. 2 pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. With that pick, the Eagles drafted their franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz. On Sunday, Wentz and company will face those same Browns in Week 1.
In exchange for the No. 2 pick, the Eagles gave up the their No. 8 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, third and fourth-rounders in 2016, their first-rounder in 2017 and their second-rounder in 2018. The Browns also gave the Eagles their fourth-rounder in 2017. It was definitely a steep price, but one that should benefit the Eagles in the long run.
The reason for the Browns trading away is simple. They did not feel that Carson Wentz would be a top-20 QB in the league. Pretty strong words for a franchise that has had a revolving door at the position since drafting Tim Couch first overall in 1999.

For Wentz, he will get to prove them wrong right off the bat in his NFL career. The young signal-caller was supposed to open at the team’s third-stringer, but he played well enough for the team to feel his time was now. Incumbent starter Sam Bradford was supposed to be the team’s starter, but he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings this past week.
Cleveland better hope that Wentz is not the real deal, or else it will just bring more ire from their fan base. They have been completely wrong about so many quarterbacks in the past, and currently have Robert Griffin III as their starter. Remember, this is the team that drafted Johnny Manziel in the first round back in 2014, so their radar was way off on that one.
It may take a few years for Wentz to become the kind of quarterback worthy of a second pick, but the Eagles have faith he will get there. Jared Goff, who the Los Angeles Rams took before Wentz, isn’t even the backup in L.A., so Wentz has proven to be the better of the two picks thus far.
Both quarterbacks will likely be solid starters eventually, and the Browns will likely keep their QB turnstile moving for the next decade or so.
