Browns reportedly set to release Robert Griffin III
Four years after he was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, quarterback Robert Griffin will be released for the second time.
The Cleveland Browns are parting ways with Griffin, according to ESPN, following a failed one-year experiment as their starting quarterback.

Griffin, the second overall pick by the Redskins in 2012, was released by that team a year ago and arrived in Cleveland looking for a fresh start with new coach Hue Jackson. He fractured his shoulder in Week 1 and didn’t return to the field until Week 13, by which time the Browns were 0-12. He did start Cleveland’s only victory of the season in Week 15, but at no point did he look like the team’s quarterback of the future.
On Thursday, the Browns traded for possible backup Brock Osweiler, and they’ll likely look for their long-term solution in the draft, where they have the Nos. 1 and 12 overall picks.
Griffin, 27, was due a $750,000 roster bonus Saturday, and that likely triggered the timing of his impending release.
