Buffalo Bills Hoping Sammy Watkins Can Save Them

Star receiver Sammy Watkins is back Buffalo Bills but is it too late?

After getting off to an 0-2 start, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman. He wanted a more defense friendly offense, featuring the running game. Receiver Sammy Watkins going out with an injury in Week made that even more of a need.

The Bills then won their next four games in a row with their defense and running game. The defense is just outside the Top-10 and their the No. 1 rushing team in the NFL. But one-dimensional football isn’t sustainable, particularly against elite teams.

So the Bills would follow the four-game winning streak with a three game losing streak. Then last week, the won a defensive struggle with the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, the 5-5 Bills still have a shot at making the playoffs this year.

The loser of the Denver Broncos vs Kansas City Chiefs game will have four losses. So if the Bills beat the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, they’ll be just a game out in the loss column. Watkins, who just came off injured reserve because of a foot injury, is questionable.

Ryan told ESPN’s Mike Rodak of Watkins’ availability the receiver is “good to go” and added “we’re definitely going to get him in there,”

Watkins’ return means the Bills’ passing game gets the big boost they need to make a run. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor has missed him as Taylor’s numbers are down without him. Watkins doesn’t have it easy in his first game with Jalen Ramsey and the Jaguars fifth-ranked defense.
