Cam Newton can do something only Montana and Namath have done
For all the talk about Peyton Manning's legacy, it's Cam Newton who could do something truly special with a win in Super Bowl 50.
The Carolina Panthers quarterback and NFL MVP front-runner could become just the third QB to start and win a Super Bowl after having led a team to a college football national championship.
Joe Namath: He led Alabama to the 1964 national title and the New York Jets to the famed Super Bowl III win. But that national title was not without some controversy. The Crimson Tide actually lost their final game of the season to Texas 21-17 in the Orange Bowl. But with no polls coming out after the season, it didn't affect their standing.
Joe Montana: The San Francisco 49ers' Hall of Fame quarterback won the national title with Notre Dame 1977 before picking up rings in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII and XXIV.
So let's just say Newton is just a win over Manning's Denver Broncos from becoming the third quarterback to join this extremely exclusive list.
