Campbell: Cardinals' defense has potential to be 'scary'

The Arizona Cardinals scored a pair of defensive touchdowns less than six minutes into Sunday's 47-7 cakewalk over the San Francisco 49ers.

Can't get much better than that, right? Think again, Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell said.

“We’ve got a lot of different playmakers on this team, a lot of different guys making plays, making up for other guys,” Campbell told the Arizona Republic. "When one guy does something wrong, the other guys cover for them. We have a lot of that going on with this team so that shows how special we can be.

"But I want to see how we can be when we’re all doing it the right way," Campbell said. “That could be scary.”

Considering that the Cardinals (3-0) limited San Francisco to 156 total yards and have rolled up 95 points over the past two weeks, an improved defense could indeed be a scary proposition for the opposition. Campbell noted one area that needs work is a run defense that has yielded 100 yards rushing in back-to-back games.

"Our goal really, I’d love to keep them under 80 yards a game," Campbell said. "It’s tough to let them go over 100. I take that personal.”
