Can the Miami Dolphins make the playoffs?

If it’s one thing the Miami Dolphins have been all year, and for the past couple years they’ve been consistent, well consistently disappointing. Without fail Miami has lost more close and critical games than they have won in the last decade. From losing the Ravens game last year which was a pivotal game deciding who would go to the playoffs, to the year they needed to win one of two division games to get in to the playoffs and lost both, Miami knows how to break their fan’s hearts.

Coming off the win in Philadelphia it was not much different when Miami hosted the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Tony Romo made his first start since injuring his collarbone in week two. However, the Dolphins' defense played solid overall getting multiple sacks on Romo, and getting two interceptions in the first half. With Miami down a couple of touchdowns, Ryan Tannehill and the offense marched down the field with a minute remaining to put six on the board before halftime.

In the second half Miami scored again on a deep pass to Kenny Stills to tie the game at fourteen apiece. Unfortunately, the Cowboy’s next possession was a good one, and Romo threw an easy touchdown to Dez Bryant. After that the Dolphins gave up good field position on a punt to Dallas, which resulted in a field goal, making it a ten point game and a final score of 24-14, ending the Cowboy’s seven game losing streak.

With that loss Miami is in a very tough spot in the AFC playoff hunt. Sitting at 4-6, they are behind Jacksonville who holds the tiebreaker by beating Miami and division rivals Buffalo. Struggling at the secondary, linebacker, and O line positions, it isn’t looking good right now for Miami to make the playoffs.

In order for them to make the playoffs a lot has to happen. They must beat New York this week, or they can basically kiss their season goodbye since they would be 0-5 in division play with a loss. Also they need Oakland, Jacksonville, Houston, Buffalo, and Kansas City all to start losing. Obviously they need to keep winning after a trip to New York with a remaining schedule with only one away game at San Diego and four home games against Baltimore, New York Giants, Indianapolis and finishing the season with New England at home.

Miami Dolphins Schedule

It’s not impossible, but it definitely doesn’t look good right now for the Dolphins. The way this season has gone with coaches being fired, and Cameron Wake being out for the year after week seven, it definitely doesn’t feel like Miami’s year. Maybe if fans could actually take this team for what it is, and not hype them up like they did, they would surprise us, but that won’t happen until Miami actually addresses the team’s real needs in the draft and free agency this offseason.
