Cardale Jones explains why he won't be watching the first night of the NFL Draft
Had Cardale Jones left Ohio State after his stellar finish to the 2014 season, he very well could have been a second-round pick. His lack of tape and experience led him to return to the Buckeyes where he hoped to improve his draft stock.
Just the opposite happened, with Jones being benched for J.T. Barrett. He now enters the 2016 draft as a Day 2 or 3 prospect with little chance of going in the first round. Even he (sort of) admits it.
Jones, in a personal piece for Sports Illustrated, revealed his plans for the first night of the draft, which doesn't include actually watching it. Instead, he'll be working out.
Jones will definitely be drafted, it's just unclear where as of now. He has the physical tools and size to be a starter in the NFL, he just needs refining. His accuracy is below average, which even his stellar arm strength can't make up for. He likely won't be a team's starter entering this season, but sitting behind a veteran could help his development greatly.
One thing's for sure: he's putting in the work. Few players would elect to work out while the first round of the draft is going on, but that's what Jones will be doing. It should make for a fun story if a team does shock everyone and take Jones at the end of round one.
The NFL Draft is right around the corner and @OhioStAthletics' @CJ12_ is on point. #PathToTheDraft #PROcasthttps://t.co/ddyZznOAxr
