In successive days, rookie quarterback Carson Wentz has been named the NFC’s offensive player of the week and Fletcher Cox is named NFC Defensive player of the month.

When the Philadelphias Eagles awarded defensive tackle Fletcher Cox with a contract that was so massive it meant his grandchildren weren’t going to have to work, no one complained. As an Eagles fan you were just happy the big guy was happy, back in the fold and could focus on being the disruptive force that he had always been. When rookie quarterback Carson Wentz was taken with the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, excitement followed, but fans were able to keep things in perspective. We’ve learned over and over that the draft isn’t an exact science.

Nobody could have ever expected what we’ve seen now. With three games gone in the season, the Eagles are 3-0, Cox has been on a tear and Wentz looks pretty dog gone good for a guy that barely played in the preseason. Their hard work has paid off and now the league is starting to take notice. On Tuesday, Wentz was awarded the NFC‘s offensive player of the week award following his 23 for 31 performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers where he threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns. One day later, Cox was named the NFC player of the month spearheaded by his strip of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his dominant play through the first three games of the season.

For the season Wentz has thrown for 769 yards, five touchdowns and has a 103.8 passer rating. Cox has a 11 combined tackles, one forced fumble and three sacks, and he’s done it while every team the Eagles have faced have made stopping him a part of their gameplan. It’s good to see the important players playing well in every game.

We’d like to tell you not to get excited, but it’s hard not to isn’t it?
