Chargers lose Jason Verrett for year with ACL injury
Pro Bowl cornerback Jason Verrett is the latest member of the San Diego Chargers that’s been hit by the injury bug with a season-ending ACL injury.
The injury nightmare continues to surface for the San Diego Chargers. Cornerback Jason Verrett is out for the rest of the season with a partially torn ACL. This is untimely news for the Chargers as they’ve had to face a lot of injuries in the first part of the NFL season.
Despite being injured for most of the season, the former TCU Horned Frog played through an obvious injury exhibiting valor that should inspire his teammates. In spite of not being listed on the team’s injury report, Verrett has played all season with a banged up knee. After injuring his knee again, today solidified the end of his season for him.

Verrett’s latest injury adds him to the list of season-ending injuries that include Jeff Cumberland, Danny Woodhead, Keenan Allen, Manti Te’o, Branden Oliver, and Stevie Johnson. Without the services of their all-everything cornerback, it makes a long list of injuries for a team that is already lacking depth. Coupled with the injury bug and three blown games, 2016 has been a forgettable year for the Bolts.

Head coach Mike McCoy is already on a scorching hot seat, and this news is definitely something he didn’t need. This Sunday, the Chargers face off against the Oakland Raiders. The aerial assault that includes Derek Carr, Michael Crabtree, and Amari Cooper will cause headaches for the Chargers secondary without Verrett.
This comes as a setback as he’s battled injuries since being selected in the first round of the 2014 draft out of TCU. Since entering the NFL in 2014, he has miss twelve games in three seasons.
When healthy, he’s one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Just last season, he had a career-high three interceptions and a trip to Hawaii last year for the Pro Bowl.
But with his latest injury, he won’t be on the field until next season, and that doesn’t bode well for the Chargers or for the oft-injured star cornerback.
