Chiefs WR Wilson out to build on successful rookie campaign
Albert Wilson came out of nowhere to provide some spark for a lackluster Chiefs receiving corps.
For an encore, he'll have to stave off scheming defensive coordinators who now know his name.
"I still feel like I have to fight until it's guaranteed," the Georgia State product told the team's official website. "I'm fighting like I'm still the underdog."
Wilson became a favorite as the season wore on. No other Chiefs receiver was targeted as many times as he was over the last four games of 2014.
He's only 5-foot-9, but Wilson can separate from defensive backs like few receivers can. Cornerback Phillip Gaines called him a jack-of-all-trades -- he goes over the middle, catches short passes, and goes deep like he did against the Raiders for this 48-yard bomb.
Kansas City will now field two burners in Wilson and new pickup Jeremy Maclin. The former hopes to have a second-year production bump like Maclin had with Andy Reid in Philadelphia.
He's working hard to show that rookie season was no fluke. Gaines has noticed. Maclin has noticed. And so has the player who'll throw Wilson's way this season.
"(He) got a taste of it last year, him coming in late in the season and playing really well,” quarterback Alex Smith said of Wilson. “You see him come in and how hungry (he is) and how determined, how ready he is for this next season and seizing his opportunity and knowing what he can do."
