Chip Kelly trade to Titans is a possibility

Chip Kelly has been the subject of a lot of speculation regarding his future.

In the middle of a disappointing 4-7 season as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, some have felt Kelly will be canned by Philly or choose to leave for another position. There was chatter about him becoming the next USC head coach, but that didn’t happen as the Trojans decided to make interim coach Clay Helton their official coach. Another possibility mentioned for Kelly is the Titans job.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia Monday that a trade of Kelly to Tennessee should not be ruled out. When asked if such a deal could involve a first-round pick, Rapoport agreed.

Kelly to the Titans would make sense for two obvious reasons. One, the Titans fired Ken Whisenhunt and are in need of a new head coach. Two, they have Marcus Mariota, who was Kelly’s prized quarterback in college at Oregon and whom Kelly desperately wanted to draft in Philly.

Even though all the chatter has suggested Kelly will go elsewhere, I’m not so certain. USC wouldn’t have hired Helton if they felt Kelly would take the job. Obviously he turned them down, so it seems he is not interested in returning to college yet. He also reportedly believes the Eagles will want him back next season. Kelly won a big battle last offseason when he was given control of the team’s personnel. He has a great situation and the backing of management. I don’t think they would pull the plug on him so soon after giving him control of the team, and I don’t think Kelly is in such a hurry to bolt after being giving this opportunity. Now if next year is another disaster, then I could see a separation occurring, but not yet.
