Chip Kelly won't commit to Colin Kaepernick as 49ers starter moving forward

Colin Kaepernick finally got on the field for some regular-season action Sunday, but that might not be the case next week.

After the San Francisco 49ers’ 45-16 loss to the Bills, Niners head coach Chip Kelly was asked if Kaepernick will be the starter going forward. Kelly was far from committal, saying “We’ll see.”

Kaepernick didn’t make a compelling argument to remain the starter Sunday, completing 13 of 29 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. Kaepernick’s lone TD was on an underthrown pass that Torrey Smith adjusted to and ran for 53 yards.

Blaine Gabbert started the first five games for the Niners, completing 87 of 150 attempts for 890 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions. Kaepernick, who made his first regular-season start since Nov. 1 of last season, underwent offseason surgery on his thumb, knee and shoulder. The 49ers play the Buccaneers next Sunday.
