Chuck Pagano: Colts roster best it's been in his time as coach
After an offseason that saw the Indianapolis Colts add a bevy of high-profile names on both sides of the ball, head coach Chuck Pagano says general manager Ryan Grigson has constructed his most talented team to date.
"Our roster is probably better right now than it's been at any point," Pagano said, per Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star.
Indeed, with free-agent acquisitions such as wide receiver Andre Johnson, running back Frank Gore, offensive lineman Todd Herremans and linebacker Trent Cole, along with draft picks like receiver Phillip Dorsett, the Colts roster is loaded with quality players.
But with that comes hard choices, particularly with the first wave of cuts looming.
"Like I've said before, we're going to have some tough decisions to make," Pagano said. "I told the team we've got to get to 75 (players) after Week 3 (of the preseason) and then down to 53 after the preseason. That's the nature of the beast. It's the hardest reality in the National Football League.
"We're going to say goodbye to a lot of good players."
The good news for Pagano and the Colts is, with the roster Grigson has constructed, they stand to hold to plenty of good players as well.
