Coaching staff pleased with Christine Michael's play in preseason

Seahawks GM John Schneider and the coaching staff knew what they were getting when drafting Christine Michael in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Among his strengths noted in his NFL.com draft profile: "Low center of gravity back with good thickness throughout his frame to take and give out punishment. North-south runner who uses his strong legs to burst out of the hole to eat up six or seven yards in a hurry."

Yet his limited playing time the last two seasons are a result of what the coaching staff wants to see from him on a regular basis.

“For him, it’s about becoming more dependable, doing stuff consistently,’’ running-backs coach Sherman Smith said, via the Seattle Times. “That’s always been his Achilles’ heel. The physical talent is there, absolutely no question about that. But we want him to become more dependable and more accountable.’’

Head coach Pete Carroll noted Michael's game "is rounding out and he's doing a nice job," alluding to particular plays where the running back stepped up and made some key blocks.

Michael also agrees that he feels his game has made strides.

“I feel more comfortable in pass protection now," Michael said, via the Seattle Times. "I know my guys (to block). It’s easy to me, just studying it and knowing who the line has and who I have.’’
