Colin Kaepernick is selling his Bay Area home as potential free agency looms

Is Colin Kaepernick planning to leave town this offseason? The San Francisco 49ers quarterback put his Bay Area home on the market, a move Kaepernick described through a team spokesman Thursday as an “investment decision.”

The 4,600-square foot home in San Jose is listed at $2.895 million. Kaepernick’s decision is all the more curious considering he and the 49ers restructured his contract earlier this year. The new deal allows the 29-year-old quarterback to opt out of the final year of the contract and become a free agent this spring.

Kaepernick has had an up-and-down season since taking over the starting job from Blaine Gabbert in Week 6. He has completed 115 of 208 attempts for 1,440 yards with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Kaepernick, who has played his entire six-year career with the 49ers, completed 63 percent of his passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns last week against the Dolphins. He also added a season-high 113 rushing yards in the loss, San Francisco’s 10th straight defeat.
