Colt McCoy injury leads to second-string reps for RG3
By Rachel Wold
Washington football backup quarterback Colt McCoy missed Monday’s practice, which allowed quarterback Robert Griffin III to temporarily serve as Kirk Cousins’ immediate backup, according to a report from Mike Jones of The Washington Post.
RG3 handled the second-string duties in while McCoy sat out because of a cut foot. He was spotted riding an equipment cart to the practice field and walked onto the field slowly.
As for RG3 seeing playing time on Sunday, the chances are slim. Even if McCoy is unavailable and Griffin is officially the backup, Cousins would have to leave the game due to injury or a blowout. Considering Washington plays the Philadelphia Eagles, the latter is not likely.
What’s worth watching, though, is if Cousins continues to struggle on Sunday, making poor decisions that result in costly turnovers. Then again, it seems Washington head coach Jay Gruden is dead-set on sticking with Cousins through thick and thin.
So, Washington’s expensive 2012 first-round pick is sadly wasting away on the bench this season.
