Colts' Hamilton named one of NFL's Top 10 offensive coordinators

Andrew Luck gets most of the kudos when it comes to the Indianapolis Colts' offense, and rightfully so, but the man who helps direct Indy's attack is getting some recognition for his work as well.

NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks ranks Indianapolis offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton as one of the Top 10 at his job in the NFL, coming in at No. 8.

"Andrew Luck's budding greatness has overshadowed Hamilton's masterful orchestration of the Colts' offense," Brooks writes. "The wily play designer, who served on Stanford's staff during Luck's time at the school, has helped his star pupil post impressive numbers the last two seasons despite lacking a solid running game. Hamilton’s clever utilization of personnel groupings and diverse formations has helped Luck torch opposing defenses."

Hamilton, who is entering his third season in charge of the Indianapolis offense, helped the Luck and Colts reach the AFC title game last year. Brooks sees even bigger things ahead.

"With more artillery coming onboard during the offseason (in the form of veteran additions Frank Gore and Andre Johnson and first-round pick Phillip Dorsett), Hamilton could finally be in position to blend the Colts' dynamic aerial attack with the power-based running game he used to help make Stanford a powerhouse on the collegiate level," Brooks writes.

If Luck and the Colts' offense have another big year, Hamilton will not only move up the offensive coordinator rankings, he also may find himself on the short list for a number potential NFL head vacancies as well.
