Colts may turn to Stephen Morris at quarterback in Week 17

A week ago, Stephen Morris was toiling in obscurity on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. Now, as Indianapolis the Colts enter Week 17, Morris stands as the team's lone healthy quarterback and is in line to make his first NFL start.

Injuries to Indianapolis quarterbacks Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst may force the unheralded Morris into the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans.

"He's the only healthy one we've got in the building right now," Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said

Luck, who is recovering from a lacerated kidney and partially torn abdominal muscle, still has not been cleared to play. Hasselbeck suffered a sprained AC joint in his shoulder during Sunday's win over the Miami Dolphins. Pagano said Monday it's doubtful the 40-year-old will be able to play against the Titans. The Colts will also be without Whitehurst, who has played in relief of Hasselbeck each of the last four weeks. Whitehurst suffered a hamstring injury late against the Dolphins and was placed on injured reserve on Monday.

That leaves Morris, a second-year player out of the University of Miami whom the Colts added last week. While Morris started 30 career games for the Hurricanes, he's yet to appear in an NFL regular season contest.

Morris signed with the Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and spent much of last season on the Jaguars' practice squad before being elevated to the active roster in December. He was released at the end of the preseason this year before joining the Eagles.

With just one healthy player at the position, Indianapolis also brought in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman for a workout on Monday, but did not immediately sign him.
