Colts place WR Whalen on injured reserve
The Indianapolis Colts placed wide receiver Griff Whalen on injured reserve as part of a flurry of team-announced roster moves after Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Houston Texans.
Whalen suffered a rib fracture after making catch late in Sunday's loss, resulting in a fumble recovered by Houston cornerback Kareem Jackson. The four-year veteran played in all 14 games this season, catching 19 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown while also returning kicks and punts on special teams.
The 25-year-old Whalen was also involved in what was arguably the most notable play of the season for the Colts, serving as the center for the botched fake-punt attempt during the team's Week 6 loss to the New England Patriots.
Indianapolis also placed defensive lineman Billy Winn on IR with a torn rotator cuff on Monday, while releasing running back Zurlon Tipton.
With three roster spots to fill, the Colts added defensive end Earl Okine and defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles from the team's practice squad and signed running back Trey Williams off the Miami Dolphins practice squad.
