Colts release former draft pick, injured running back

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:30 p.m. ET

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) The Indianapolis Colts put inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera on waivers Wednesday.

Herrera was Indy's sixth-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft but spent most of last season on the practice squad. He played in only three games, with one tackle on special teams, and had not stood out during training camp at Anderson University.

With injuries depleting the Colts' depth along the defensive line and at safety, Herrera was released.

Indy also put running back Abou Toure on the waived-injured list and he will wind up on injured reserve if he clears waivers.

The Colts have not yet signed any players to replace Herrera and Toure on the 90-man roster.
