Colts waiting for word on severity of DT Jones' ankle injury
The Indianapolis Colts are waiting to find out how long they'll be without one of their key contributors on defense after defensive tackle Arthur Jones injured his ankle during Saturday's preseason game against the St. Louis Rams.
Per ESPN's Josina Anderson, Jones, who left the stadium in a walking boot, met with a foot and ankle specialist. Jones suffered the injury during the Colts' first defensive series Saturday night.
“Hopefully we get a better report from our docs and it isn’t significant where a guy's are going to miss a number of games, or whatever it is,” Indianapolis head coach Chuck Pagano said, per ESPN. “But yeah, it gets frustrating for players, for the coaches. You got one of your key cogs in your defense. You’ve got to have him out there. We’ll deal with it as it comes.”
Jones, who the Colts are counting on to help improve their run defense, missed seven games last season with a high ankle sprain.
While it's yet unknown how much time Jones may miss, the team will likely turn to Montori Hughes to take over as starter, with Zach Kerr and rookie Henry Anderson also seeing time at the position.
“I think any of those guys have the flexibility position-wise to be able to fill in there,” Pagano said.
