Could Devin Smith be the odd man out with Jets?

As the New York Jets are putting up some serious numbers offensively, is wide receiver Devin Smith the odd man out?

The New York Jets are enjoying their first victory of the season against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football. It was a great game between two teams trying to head in the right direction with the Jets leaving victorious.

The wide receiver corps of the Jets sure has been impressive as of late. Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and the emerging Quincy Enunwa have all done a marvelous job at keeping those chains moving and scoring touchdowns.

All throughout the offseason, there was a small glimmer of hope that wide receiver Devin Smith would at the very least be able to participate in training camp. Unfortunately, due to his torn ACL injury, it’s taken a bit longer than envisioned.

Smith has missed all organized team activities, training camp, preseason football, and well, is low on the totem pole. It’s unfortunate since he had an impressive collegiate career that had fans excited for what he would bring to the table.

At Ohio State, Smith totaled 2,503 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns.

Needless to say, his speed and ability to take the top off of defenses would have been great to see.

Injuries are a part of the game and unfortunately if a play can’t get on the football field to prove their worth, their overall stock starts to plummet.

It’s nothing against Smith but looking at Marshall, Decker, Enunwa, and another potential star receiver in Jalin Marshall, Smith is the odd man out in the grand scheme of things.

Smith won’t be eligible to return until Week 7 of the regular season. The Jets placed him on the injured reserve list and hopefully when he comes back, he’ll be able to showcase his unique skill-set. If of course, he even gets an opportunity to do so since this current receiving corps on the Jets aren’t letting up anytime soon as they continue to make headlines.
