Cowboys RB Darren McFadden reveals how he actually broke his elbow
Believe it or not, but Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden didn't actually break his elbow attempting to catch his dropped iPhone. That's the story that was put out by running backs coach Gary Brown, but it turns out to be false. Go figure.
McFadden cleared the air a bit recently, telling the real story to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
"I just slipped down and landed on my elbow," McFadden said. "My phone was in my hand, and so people kind of put that story out."
McFadden also told the Democrat-Gazette that the injury occurred in his friend's backyard following a funeral. He slipped and fell on concrete near a swimming pool, which sounds a lot more plausible than attempting to catch a $300 iPhone.
Now, the real question that remains is why did Brown construct that story? And where did that even come from? Sure, McFadden had his phone, but he debunked the narrative that the fall happened while trying to save it from hitting the ground. We may never know the reason behind it, but at least we have the real story now. And McFadden is excited to get back on the field for this season.
"I got a few weeks left in this brace, but other than that, my body feels good," McFadden said. "I feel great, and I'm looking forward to the season. I'm ready to go."
Unfortunately, he likely won't be the starter anymore, if he was ever the No. 1 guy after the Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott. The injury could very well be the reason that McFadden takes a backseat to Elliott and likely Alfred Morris, too. The sooner he gets back, the better. But it might be a case of being too little too late.
