Cowboys rookie Ezekiel Elliott to 'miss some time' with hamstring injury
The hits keep on coming for the Dallas Cowboys.
On the same day that backup quarterback Kellen Moore underwent surgery for a broken ankle, executive vice president Stephen Jones said rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott “may miss some time” with a sore hamstring.
The injury reportedly occurred during Tuesday’s practice when it flared up. He had his hamstring stretched out mid-practice and was unable to finish the day. Keeping him on the sideline for now is merely a precaution, but in no way is this news the Cowboys wanted to receive.
A hamstring injury is difficult to gauge in terms of how long it will keep a player out, but Elliott will most likely be out a week, as Ed Werder is reporting. With that said, there’s also a good chance he sits out the team’s first preseason game on August 13.
Alfred Morris will take Elliott’s reps in practice with Darren McFadden sidelined due to an injury of his own. Jones did say that the team doesn’t need to sign a running back with Elliott out thanks to Rod Smith’s experience.
