Cowboys' Stephen Jones doesn't rule out drafting Texas RB Bijan Robinson

Updated Apr. 19, 2023 1:36 p.m. ET

After releasing Ezekiel Elliott, are the Dallas Cowboys seriously considering drafting Texas Longhorns star running back Bijan Robinson in the first round next Thursday?

Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones isn't dismissing those rumors. In fact, he may be adding fuel to the fire.

"I don't think I've seen any set of circumstances that he's not a first-round pick in almost any draft," Jones said when asked about potentially drafting the Texas product. "I'm sure when that first day [of the draft is over], he's gonna certainly have a team, and you never know."

Bijan Robinson perfect fit for Dak Prescott, Cowboys

Joel Klatt explains why Texas RB Bijan Robinson is the perfect fit for the Cowboys. Klatt breaks down why he could even see Jerry Jones moving up in the draft to select the running back.

After compiling 1,580 yards, 20 total touchdowns and 6.1 yards per carry in his 2022 season, Robinson is projected to go to the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 21 in FOX Sports' latest mock draft

That would be five picks before Dallas' first selection, but in today's league, where running backs have been devalued, he may fall right into the Cowboys' lap at No. 26.

Picking up Robinson in the draft would not only give Dallas another potent backfield duo similar to Elliott and Tony Pollard, but it would also give the Cowboys a security blanket in case Pollard is slow to return to form after breaking his left leg in January.
