Cutler on Bears WR Wilson: 'He's going to be a threat'

Published Aug. 21, 2015 10:06 a.m. ET

The Chicago Bears are in trouble at the wide receiver position. Alshon Jeffery is dealing with a calf strain, and first-round rookie Kevin White has a fractured shin that may require season-ending surgery.

Despite the adversity currently facing his offense, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is excited about the weapons he has left -- namely Marquess Wilson.

"He's a mature 22-year-old," Cutler said about Wilson, per Bob LeGere of the Daily Herald. "We just need him to take that next step and get some confidence. Getting hurt last year set him back a little bit.

"Once he gets out there, catches some balls and gets going some, he's going to be a threat."

Wilson, a former seventh-round draft pick, has only 19 receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown through two seasons with the Bears. The lack of production hasn't stifled his hype, though.

"He can do anything," Cutler said, per the Daily Herald. "You can put him inside, you can put him outside, he can break in, he can break out. Man-to-man he's good off the press. He's got a huge array of routes that he can do."

So long as Jeffery and White are sidelined, Wilson is sure to scarf up plenty of reps with the starters. We'll see what he can make of the opportunity before him.
