Dak Prescott squashes any potential Cowboys quarterback controversy
Dak Prescott has yet to throw his first regular-season touchdown, but there are already rumblings that the Dallas Cowboys might hand the starting job to the rookie quarterback even when Tony Romo fully heals from his back injury.
But Prescott did his best to put an end to any potential QB controversy a day after he guided the Cowboys past the Redskins.
"This is Romo's team," Prescott told reporters Monday. "I've said that from the moment that I was named the starter and he went down. I'm just trying to do my best to win games and put this team in a successful position to do that week in and week out and when he comes back, I'll leave that up to the big guys."
Prescott's maturity has been on full display both on and off the field, and this is just the latest example. Though the rookie hasn't thrown a touchdown in two games, he also hasn't thrown an interception, passing Warren Moon for the most attempts to start a career without throwing a pick in his first two games.
The Cowboys brass might be very tempted to give Prescott the permanent job, but with Dallas still having playoff aspirations it probably makes more sense to go with the more established quarterback, at least for now.
But the 23-year-old Prescott has shown Cowboys fans there is a bright future ahead when the 36-year-old Romo eventually steps aside.
