Demaryius Thomas raves about Trevor Siemian, says offense will improve

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:24 p.m. ET

The Denver Broncos had one of the worst passing offenses in the entire NFL last season. Peyton Manning wasn’t himself, and Brock Osweiler had his fair share of struggles, too. The result was 19 touchdown passes and a league-high 23 interceptions, combined with the second-worst passer rating (76.3).

Neither Manning nor Osweiler are in Denver any longer, and instead it’s their backup, Trevor Siemian, starting games for the Broncos this season. Common sense says that the third-string quarterback for a team with a terrible passing offense would only make it even worse.

But wideout Demaryius Thomas doesn’t see it that way. He believes the offense will be even better under Siemian.

So what exactly does Thomas like so much about Siemian?

Thomas raved about Siemian some more, saying “the ball is on time,” and “he don’t make bad decisions.” He wasn’t exactly stellar in the preseason, but he did make fewer mistakes than Mark Sanchez – not that it’s exactly a huge accomplishment.

Siemian lacks elite arm strength, but so did Manning. Siemian isn’t the most accurate quarterback, but neither was Osweiler. Yet, despite starting both quarterbacks last season, the Broncos still won the Super Bowl.

It’s hard to expect a repeat performance from Denver this season, but Siemian isn’t much worse than Manning or Osweiler – and according to Thomas, the offense will be better with him under center.
