Denver Broncos' QB Trevor Siemian Remains A Man Doubted

The Denver Broncos are currently led by an unknown hero to lead them back to the Super Bowl promise land: Trevor Siemian. He should be embraced, not doubted.

This is the first time a Broncos-led offense has a different quarterback handling the helm for a full season, since Tim Tebow. Tebow is one of the most critiqued, debated and hated quarterback to play in the NFL for some time. Trevor Siemian recently has drawn comparisons to Tebow’s backup in 2011, Kyle Orton.

Much like during Siemian’s college days with Northwestern and Orton himself, Siemian is not flashy or mobile as Tebow and Broncos first-round draft pick, Paxton Lynch. If there is one area to never second-guess, it is the Broncos scouting department.

The Broncos picked Lynch to be the quarterback of the future. Mark Sanchez was certainly capable of taking the team back to the postseason. However, the competition in camp was not overwhelming and Siemian made MORE plays than Sanchez in camp to EARN the starting job.

A fanatic is a devoted person to a team and/or cause, but it is better to be an objective fan calling like it is. Siemian has thrown one touchdown in his two games with three interceptions and that ratio will need to be better.

We are all in agreement in that narrative. Where fans continue to miss the mark remains the win-loss record and whom Siemian beat in the first game of the season. The Broncos managed to beat the 2015-2016 NFC Champions in the first game of the NFL season, turning the ball over twice from Siemian in exactly the same fashion as the Super Bowl.

Secondly, he needs to cut down on the picks. Yet, his calm, cool and poised demeanor is enough to keep the offense unflappable in key situations. Players have stated Siemian’s composed and easy-going personality feels like he is a ten-year veteran. If this area of turnovers continues, it will force Kubiak to possibly make a change.

Siemian and the rest of the offense must manage to convert in the Red Zone, but as the old adage goes, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” The Broncos defense played on another level in 2015 and in the Super Bowl, which is why Siemian has been asked to not do too much because he has a defense capable of scoring two touchdowns on defense every game.

The power of objectivity also includes support. We as Broncos fans should be rallying around Siemian and his talent to make the necessary throws from hash mark to hash mark. Siemian, as I witnessed in camp is capable of making the necessary throws to be a quality NFL starter, like Kyle Orton.

As fans we at times gravitate to the flash and glamour of skilled players. This explains (I’m as much to blame for this as anyone) for the notion of a first-round pick above all else.

Lynch has the makings to be a stellar quarterback, but so does Siemian. Siemian’s delivery is compact allowing the pass rush to struggle in stripping the ball from his hands. Also his fleet of foot pocket presence can extend plays giving Siemian’s targets an opportunity for the big play. Siemian has not shown this side as often, but in Training Camp he took those chances.

A winning quarterback is the constant debate killer and the starts and victories Siemian has under his belt in 2016 will continue to keep Lynch on the bench. As Colts/Broncos fans learned, Peyton Manning’s first two games of his NFL career resulted in two touchdowns and six interceptions. Obviously, the expectation was higher for Manning as a first-overall pick in 1993 NFL Draft. Or is it? Siemian is replacing the Hall of Famer.

Trevor Siemian remains the QB Wild Card and a man doubted.
