Deone Bucannon is happy to be back at safety for the Cardinals
Deone Bucannon is back at his natural position of safety at the Cardinals' offseason workouts this summer. Bucannon played primarily safety in college, but played linebacker almost all of last season in the team’s nickel sub-package. The move back to safety has been a welcome one for Bucannon.
“I love playing safety,” Bucannon said, via the Cardinals official website. “That’s where I have been playing for who knows how long. It’s good to get back there and get back ‘home.’'
Bucannon knows he is a little behind at the safety position having never really played the position in the NFL before. He doesn't think it will be a problem though with all the veterans on the team that he can turn to for advice.
“It’s going to happen,” Bucannon said. “As far as you need to look at as a safety, and the calls and reads, in terms of that I’m a little behind because I missed a whole year of it. But obviously that’s what I have older guys here for, to help me get back to speed.
“(The offseason) is when you learn. Learn as much as you can. Training camp is where you put it all together.”
