Detroit Lions CB Quandre Diggs not surprised by early success
Of the Detroit Lions' seven selections in the 2015 NFL Draft, sixth-round cornerback Quandre Diggs might be off to the hottest start. This isn't a surprise for Diggs. In fact, according to what he recently told Dave Birkett of Detroit Free Press, it's exactly what he expected.
"It's what I expected of myself, to go out and compete and make plays," Diggs said, via the Free Press. "I wouldn't say I'm pleased with it because in my eyes I can do a lot better, I can be a lot better. I'm my hardest critic and I know I'll continue to get better and I'm just going to go out and prove the player I am."
Wide receiver Golden Tate is one who's already impressed with Diggs, per the report; defensive coordinator Teryl Austin is another. Austin gave Diggs first-team reps in the nickel package during early offseason workouts, describing him as a player who makes up for his lack of size with his style of play.
"He's not going to have the measurable that we like," Austin told the Free Press about Diggs. "He doesn't have the length, he doesn't have the height, but what he does have is a good understanding of football. He makes quick reactions, he has good eyes, good hands, good feet. That's what you need as a defensive back."
Even though the Lions selected cornerback Alex Carter in the third round, the Texas product selected three rounds later could see more playing time in coverage this season.
