Detroit Lions DT Haloti Ngata: 'I've never been a part of a defense like this'
Haloti Ngata has been a part of some scary-good defensive units during his nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. However, nothing the defensive tackle experienced in Baltimore compares to what he's now taking in as a member of the Detroit Lions defense.
"It's exciting, man," Ngata told Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. "I've never been a part of a defense like this. You have so many athletes: J.J. (Jason Jones), Ziggy (Ansah), Caraun (Reid), Darryl Tapp. You just have so many playmakers all over the front on the D-line. I'm just excited to be a part of it."
The Ravens dealt Ngata, 31, to the Lions earlier this offseason. Detroit needed a D-tackle to replace Ndamukong Suh, who signed with the Miami Dolphins in free agency. Although Ngata is an older and rounder interior defensive lineman than Suh, the Free Press report indicates optimism about his adjustment to a new role.
Ngata made five consecutive Pro Bowls from 2009-2013; the Lions hope to reap whatever remains of that potential in 2015.
