Dez Bryant wants to help fix the NFL's confusing catch rule

When NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell puts together a panel of football experts charged with recommending a rule that would best define what a catch is, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant wants to be a part of it.

“That’s cool!” Bryant told USA TODAY Sports, when told about the committee. “They need to invite me. Tell them they need to call me, so I can have my input.”

Goodell has confirmed that the NFL will look at how it can improve the controversial catch rule. Bryant could certainly provide some insight after being involved in last postseason's most controversial calls.

In the 2014 NFC Divisional Round game between the Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, Bryant had a fourth-down catch overruled after further review when it was determined that he did not maintain control. This decision got the debate about what constitutes a catch rolling again and its game-altering impact still weighs heavily on Bryant.

“That’s football,” Bryant said. “But I’ll tell you this: I dwelled on that (expletive) for about a good two months. It was hard for me to watch (the rest of) the playoffs, just because ..."

Bryant may never get an opportunity to share his ideas with Goodell or the panel of experts, but if the rule does get rewritten for the better, he can take solace in the fact that he inadvertently helped spark the change.
