Does Cam Newton need to change his style of play?
Cam Newton has been taking a beating since opening night this season, and the Carolina Panthers QB is questionable for Week 5 after suffering a concussion Sunday against Atlanta.
With the reigning NFL MVP absorbing so much punishment, in part because of his style of play, the question is does he need to change it?
FOX Sports' Jason Whitlock thinks so.
"We're looking at an RG3 situation," Whitlock said on "Speak For Yourself" on Tuesday. "A guy with no self-awareness as a quarterback."
Whitlock said Newton's trash-talking and cockiness are leading to unnecessary hits that could rob him of some confidence.
"He is a quarterback, he should carry himself like a quarterback," Whitlock said.
Guest Michael Lombardi said Newton's size is part of the reason these hits are taking a toll.
"When force meets force, it's a powerful thing," Lombardi said. "And I think that's what happens to the kid, and he has to learn to play with a little more control. And he can't take the emotion out of what he does, but he has to play more under control. Let the game calm down a little bit."
