Dolphins' Lamar Miller tops 20 carries for just second time in career
The Miami Dolphins somehow came away with their fifth win of the season on Sunday, topping the injury-riddled Baltimore Ravens, 15-13. It was new play caller Zac Taylor's first crack at fixing the struggling offense, but it didn't go as well as he had hoped.
The offense put up just seven points, while Ryan Tannehill finished the game 9-of-19 for 86 yards and one touchdown. Safe to say, those aren't numbers the Dolphins are looking for from their franchise quarterback, but they did improve in one area: getting Lamar Miller the ball.
Miller topped 20 carries in a game for just the second time in his four-year career, with the other time coming in 2013 when he carried it 22 times. He rushed for 113 yards on the ground against the Ravens, matching his second-highest total this season.
It's puzzling as to why the Dolphins refuse to give him the ball, given his impressive numbers when he gets a bigger workload. Entering Sunday's game, he was averaging 4.8 yards per carry but he increased that number to 4.9 after this week's performance.
Taylor promised to run the ball more often and balance the offense, and he did that, but points didn't come with it. He'll get another shot at improving the offense next week against the New York Giants.
