Dolphins sign a new quarterback in aftermath of Ryan Tannehill injury
The Miami Dolphins have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008, sitting at 8-5 with a potential No. 6 seed in the AFC. But they'll have to do it without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who sprained his left knee last week and likely will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
That means Matt Moore will lead the playoff push, and on Tuesday, the Dolphins signed T.J. Yates to back him up.
Moore hasn't made a start since 2011. He's a career 58.9 percent passer with 5,356 passing yards, 33 TDs and 28 INTs.
Yates last played in 2015 with Houston, making two starts. He had five starts with the Texans in 2011 and also played for Atlanta. He's a career 58.1 percent passer with 1,534 passing yards, six TDs and eight INTs.
The Dolphins added Yates after placing three-time Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey on injured reserve. Pouncey played in just five games due to a hip injury. Miami also announced defensive end Dion Jordan will remain on the reserve non-football injury list. The No. 3 pick in the 2013 draft, Jordan did not play this season due to a 15-month drug suspension and knee surgery.
