Eagles coach Chip Kelly will 'never question' Jason Peters' toughness
After the Philadelphia Eagles' 38-24 loss to the Washington Redskins, news emerged that Eagles' offensive lineman Jason Peters removed himself from the game in the fourth quarter, saying he wasn't going to risk an injury in what would turn out to be a meaningless game for the Eagles.
Now, Eskins' tweet makes it sound like Peters simply took himself out of the game because he didn't want to risk injury. But a further report indicates that Peters may have actually been injured in Saturday's game. And while it may have been a playable injury, Peters simply didn't want to run the risk of injuring himself further.
Whatever the true case may be, head coach Chip Kelly was willing to address the situation. And Kelly had nothing but nice things to say about Peters.
"In terms of Jason as a person, he's played through a lot since I've been here," Kelly told Penn Live's Aaron Kasinitz. "I will never question his toughness."
"Jason has been playing hurt all season long," Kelly continued. "I don't think people realize what he's gone through to be out on the field."
Does it really matter if Peters took himself out of the game? The Eagles were never really in the contest with the Redskins, and a loss would eliminate their playoff hopes. Peters will be 34 in January, and if the seven-time Pro Bowler wants to take himself for the sake of staying healthy, he may have earned that right to do so.
