Eagles dealing with injuries going into Redskins game
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Rookie cornerback Eric Rowe returned to practice for the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, while two other starters on defense remained out.
Rowe, who suffered a concussion in the Eagles' 40-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, passed through the NFL concussion protocol and was cleared to return to the practice field.
Unless he suffers a relapse he will start Saturday night when the Eagles host the Washington Redskins.
If the Eagles beat the Redskins, they can clinch the NFC East title for the second time in three years with a win the following Sunday against the New York Giants. If the Redskins win Saturday night, they will win the NFC East title for the first time since 2012.
Veteran cornerback Byron Maxwell and third-year defensive tackle Bennie Logan remained out of practice on Wednesday.
Maxwell hurt his shoulder in the loss to the Cardinals, and Logan has a lower-leg injury.
Eagles coach Chip Kelly denied a report that Logan was being shut down for the season.
''No, that's not accurate,'' Kelly said before Wednesday's practice. ''Right now he's day to day and we'll see how that goes as we get closer to the game.''
If Logan, who has played 46 consecutive games from the start of his career, is out, second-year player Beau Allen would make his first career start.
''Beau has done a nice job,'' Kelly said. ''We'll rotate those guys, if Bennie can't go. Brandon Bair would be active and we'll have a six-man rotation up front.''
Kelly said that starting defensive ends Cedric Thornton and Fletcher Cox could also move inside to tackle to spell Allen. And then Bair and pass rusher Vinny Curry could get more time outside.
Maxwell was still in pain from the shoulder sprain, but said he was getting better. With two more days to get ready, he could be a game-time decision.
''It feels better (Wednesday) than it did (Tuesday),'' Maxwell said. ''I have two more days so we'll just see. It still hurts, but not as bad as it did before.''
The cornerback standing at his locker did have a difficult time raising his arm to take off his T-shirt.
If Maxwell can't play, veteran E.J. Biggers would likely get the start and Jaylen Watkins would be the Eagles' No. 3 cornerback.
