Carson Wentz’s remarkable streak without throwing an interception finally came to an end in the Philadelphia Eagles’ first loss.

The Philadelphia Eagles are no longer undefeated after a shocking 24-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz faced his first test after the Lions took the lead with a field goal in the fourth quarter. His gutsy decision to throw the ball deep did not pay off. His pass was intercepted by Lions cornerback Darius Slay. This marked Wentz’s first career interception, and it could not have come at a worse time for him.

The Eagles faced a 14-0 deficit early on against the Lions. They put together a strong second half though, and they eventually took the lead. The Eagles took a 23-21 lead over the Lions with just under seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Eagles defense held strong and forced the Lions to kick a field goal. This gave the Eagles an opportunity to win it with a field goal.

The second overall pick threw 134 passes before throwing the first pick of his career. Nonetheless, Wentz has gotten off to a flying start in leading the Eagles to a 3-1 start. He also had an overall solid performance with 238 yards with two touchdown passes along with his interception. The Eagles were expected to be miles away from playoff contention. However, Wentz has immediately put his team back on the map.

It remains to be seen how the exciting rookie will respond to his first major mistake. The Eagles will look to improve to 4-1 against the Washington Redskins. This will not be easy since the Redskins are on fire with a three-game winning streak. This will mark a crucial turning point in an extremely tight NFC East race.
