Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins named NFC defensive player of the week
Safety Malcolm Jenkins got some pretty high praise this week.
Following his performance against the New York Giants on Thursday, Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has gotten some well deserved recognition. He’s been named the NFL‘s defensive player of the week in the NFC.

Jenkins has shown a penchant for being a one-man wrecking crew on defense. Now, it may be harder for him to hide from opposing offenses going forward. As if they haven’t already, teams will be bringing him up more often in film study and the game plan as he’s continued to show that he can turn games on one play and convert defense into offense. The entire country found that out last year in the Eagles’ upset victory over the New England Patriots.
Take a look:
On Thursday, Jenkins did it again. He finished the game with six total tackles (five of them solo), three passes defensed and two interceptions. One of them came early as he picked off Giants quarterback Eli Manning and found his way to the end zone. The second ended a drive. Without his efforts, it’s not certain whether or not the Eagles would have won last Thursday night’s game.
Any time the Eagles beat the Giants, it’s a great day or evening. This one was an early Christmas present. Seeing Jenkins win this honor is just the icing on the cake, but fans have come to expect this from him. He’s played safety, played as a makeshift nickel corner and played up on the line in run defense. He’s done it all, but what he’s done in the locker room as a leader and in the community to improve citizen and police relations is sometimes overlooked and only speaks volumes about the type of influence he’s capable of having.
This week, a rematch with the Dallas Cowboys is on the slate, and the Eagles will look to avenge a loss to one of their biggest rivals. Let’s hope he has a similar type of game in that one.
