Eric Ebron 'surprised' by 0-3 start, says Lions are a 'great' team

Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron can't figure out why his team is where it is.

Ebron thinks the Lions are a "great" team, according to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. Yet, through three games, Detroit is 0-3 and sinking further by the week.

"I mean, I'm surprised, yeah, because of the players and how great we are, how good we look every day," Ebron said, per the Detroit Free Press. "So I'm really surprised. But it's the NFL. A few mistakes can make you 3-0 or 0-3. I mean, we're 0-3 because of the mistakes we've been having and the mental errors and things like that. So we've just got to continue to work hard and get better."

The Lions can't run the ball (45.0 rushing yards per game) and they're not protecting quarterback Matthew Stafford (six sacks). Detroit is also minus-two (-2) in turnover differential, and the defense ranks in the bottom third in terms of points allowed (27.7 per game).

However, despite all of this, Ebron insists the Lions are beating themselves.

"Yeah, that's why we're 0-3," Ebron said, per the Detroit Free Press. "We're hurting ourselves. No one in this league can match us or play against us unless we hurt ourselves. And we've been doing that for three straight weeks. So we'll get better at it."

The Lions were supposed to compete for a division title and maybe even a Super Bowl this season, but that's quickly turning into a pipe dream.

It appears as though Ebron bought the hype -- hard.
