Fantasy Football: Packers receiver Davante Adams a must-add in Week 9

All of a sudden, Davante Adams has become a must-add fantasy player.

Adams is emerging as Aaron Rodgers‘ favorite target, seeing far more of the football than any of his fellow Packers receivers.

Adams has an incredible 30 targets in the past two games. In fantasy, volume often translates into points. A costly fumble hurt his numbers this past week, but he still caught 12 passes for 74 yards in Atlanta.

Finding the end zone has been a strong point for Adams this season, too. Through seven games, he’s hauled in five scores.

Davante Adams: 32-325-3

Jordy Nelson: 14-209-2

Randall Cobb: 27-256-2

Ty Montgomery: 20-164-0

Montgomery has emerged as a key weapon out of the backfield more recently, although he missed last Sunday’s game in Atlanta due to illness.

Adams’ play has been vastly improved on last year, and Rodgers isn’t hesitating to throw him the football early and often. With Montgomery and Cobb out in Atlanta, Mike McCarthy utilized Adams out of the backfield.

Without a running game to lean on, Aaron Rodgers has been forced to throw the football often, and Adams has been the greatest beneficiary.

With games against the Colts, Titans and Redskins to come, Adams should find joy in favorable matchups. The latter, against Washington, does mean an evening opposite star cornerback Josh Norman, but he will likely shadow Jordy Nelson for much of the game.

Adams has become an important piece to the Packers passing game. Whether lined up outside, in the slot or in the backfield, Rodgers is firing the ball his way without hesitation. While he won’t see the same incredible volume he has over the past two weeks, there’s no reason to believe he won’t be the Packers’ leading receiver the rest of the way.

Adams is still available in over half of NFL.com leagues. If he’s on your waiver wire, make him a priority in Week 9.
