Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 5: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
Heading into Fantasy Football Week 5, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick of the New York Jets should without a single doubt be benched this week in your starting lineup.
Make no mistake about it, when it comes to the fantasy football value of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, owners need to run faster than a New York minute if considering starting him this week. In Week 5, Fitzpatrick faces the red-hot Pittsburgh Steelers in a road game.
The Jets have already begun an early season meltdown. They’re currently 1-3 and their offense is a complete disaster. They can’t make first downs, don’t score in red zone situations, and Fitzpatrick has been a turnover machine so far this season.
Fantasy football owners would be wise to sit Fitzpatrick this week and even consider parting ways with him immediately. Injuries have hit the wide receiver corps of the Jets hard as even rising star Quincy Enunwa is dealing with a knee injury. Wide receiver Eric Decker is out due to a shoulder injury and Brandon Marshall is dealing with a knee/ankle injury but will still play.
Enunwa is currently listed as “questionable” heading into Sunday’s game and if he doesn’t play well or gets further injured, Fitzpatrick will be in for a long day under center. While some may think he’ll put up a huge performance to save his job before he gets benched for Geno Smith, it’s just not happening against the Steelers.

Fitzpatrick hasn’t been his usual self. Ever since his six-interception game in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs, he’s been frazzled.
Don’t expect “Fitzmagic” to happen anytime soon as the Steelers will undoubtedly bring it to the Jets and continue their usual dominating ways on defense.
Fantasy owners should bench Fitzpatrick this week and either swap in their QB2 or hit the waiver wires for the best available quarterback.
By the looks of it, the Jets made a mistake by re-signing Fitzpatrick this season as it’s evident the tough schedule is too much for him to handle.
Smith is in the shadows waiting for a shot to see if he could finally be the answer the Jets need for now and of course, the future. There is no guarantee Smith can live up to such expectations but if Fitzpatrick starts throwing interceptions against the Steelers early on, expect to see a quarterback change.
Overall, this will probably be the last game Fitzpatrick starts under center if he continues his abysmal performance on offense. Owners should just cut their losses now before he ends up being a permanent backup for the Jets to see if maybe a week or two off brings him back to his senses.
